1Thessalonians 5:24-25 “Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it. Brethren, pray for us.”

Dear Praying Friends,

Thank you so much for your prayers the past two months. We are praising the Lord for the health He has given us and the blessings in the Mailbox Club and SLM Canada. We will be sharing our ministry in a church here in Saskatoon this month, pray that all will go well. Thank you.

There were 6 new students added to the Mailbox Club in the month of January and 12 added in February. We have been sending out a letter with birthday cards each month letting the students know that they can email their answers to us. Many of the students that haven’t written in awhile have started up again after they receive their birthday card and letter. Some send through email and some don’t but at least they are reminded of their lessons and begin sending again. We graded 248 lessons in January with 36 of those being emailed and 201 lessons in February with 22 of those emailed to us. We sent 36 certificates to students finishing their courses in those two months. One student in January made a profession of faith because of doing his lesson!

Please continue to pray for our students. I am sharing a note that was sent to us at the end of January from an adult student in Nova Scotia. She writes:

“The most important thing I learned in this lesson is more about Jesus. We can never stop learning about Him. I want to live and please Him each and every day. He is No. 1 in my life and I pray for “lost ones” every day. I enjoyed the last lesson No. 12 very much because I love to read about heaven. I have many questions about HOME—how wonderful it will be. Thank you for helping us to learn more about Jesus! Love, Ruth K.”

Thank you again for praying for our ministry and our family.

Dear Praying Friends,

Happy New Year! We had a most wonderful time during our Christmas holidays with our boys’ families and friends! Thank you for your prayers as we traveled to Maryland on the 22nd of December and on our home trip January 2nd. We made many memories and enjoyed every minute!

Please keep praying as we are still waiting to get our Source of Light Canada Registered Charity status! Most of the Mailbox Club lessons are coming to our address now and things are running quite smoothly. There were 28 lessons waiting for me after our trip. Then Mondays’ 16 lessons came. There were about 17 lessons that were mailed to Impact Canada Ministries to pick up on Tuesday. The three ladies staying on to help grade lessons began coming to help again on January 7.

The address at 401 33rd St. West is no longer our address. Please send all correspondence to our home address:

Once again thank you for praying for our ministry and our family.

1Thessalonians 5:24-25 “Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it. Brethren, pray for us.”

Dear Praying Friends,

This letter is an update on the changes in our ministry and in our lives that we shared with you in our newsletter in September. First in August, we moved Joe’s Source of Light Ministries office to our house into one of our spare rooms. Then began the paperwork and by September 3, 2015 we got our incorporation papers! We are now incorporated as Source of Light Ministries, Inc. Please keep praying as we are still trying to get our Registered Charity status!

Since Impact Canada Ministries is selling their building, we needed to move all the stored lessons out of the ICM basement and into a room in our friends’ storage facility! There has been a donation of $500 for our SLM storage room and it was built by one of our board members and Joe in September! Praise the Lord! A week or two later, Joe and I then started moving the lessons 45 boxes at a time into the room. It took us 3 trips, one each on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to get all the lessons moved and on the shelves! Praise the Lord for the strength and fortitude to keep on going! By November 1st, The Mailbox Club office will be in our basement. This will be another big endeavor but hopefully not quite as long and tedious as moving the storage lessons! It should only take one or two days to get it all in. Thank you for your prayers for safety as we move! With the move away from the office, the Mailbox Club is also still needing support each month to cover postage costs. If ten families or churches would be able to donate $50 a month, costs would be covered allowing the Mailbox Club students to not have any delays in receiving their next lesson. If you could help, please reply to this email! If you can’t, please pray that the additional funds will come in!

Our newest grandson was born September 27th and is doing well. Thank you for praying for David and Rachel and Levi! Please continue to pray for our health and for our sons and their families. We appreciate your prayers. Thank you again for praying!

Joe & Penny

Dear Praying Friends,

Changes happening! Big changes, please keep us in prayer these next few months as we have many things to do to keep up with the changes! First, the mission we have been partnered with has since changed their name from Western Tract Mission Inc. to Impact Canada Ministries Inc. and the board has decided to transfer the Mailbox Club to Source of Light Ministries Canada. We agreed to take it and will move it over to our home since they have been trying to sell their building for over a year now and are looking for appropriate office space for their mission.

Secondly, we are still trying to get our registered charity status and have found out that we need to be incorporated to do that, so keep praying because now we really need this since we will not be under Western Tract Mission anymore and have to be our own entity. They have given us until June 1, 2016 so we should have plenty of time, unless the building sells!

Thirdly, since we have to move the Mailbox Club office to our home, we will have to start paying for postage and for mailbox supplies such as, envelopes, printer ink and paper etc. We are going to need to raise money for postage to be able to keep sending lessons to our students. We are estimating it to be about $500.00 a month or $6000.00 a year. If you would like to help us with a one time gift or to give monthly, please send a check to Source of Light Ministries at 1011 Mission Rd. Madison, GA 30650 and designate it for SLM Canada postage. If you are in Canada and want to help support the Mailbox Club, please write checks to Impact Canada Ministries because our money will continue to go through them until we become incorporated. Please put in the memo that it is for SLM postage so it won’t get mixed up with ICM monies. Thank you. We appreciate all your prayers and support.

Fourthly, we need to move all the stored lessons out of the ICM basement and one of our friends from church has suggested using his storage facility; but because we sell those lessons and use them monthly with the mailbox students we need to have them in a room that will not be too humid or leak or in any way harm the lessons. The guys will have some work to do building walls and a door and shelves. Someone has already donated $500 for the storage facility! Praise the Lord!

Please continue to pray for our health and for our sons and their families. We appreciate your prayers. Thank you again for praying!

1Thessalonians 5:24-25 “Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it. Brethren, pray for us.”

Dear Praying Partners,

On June 14 we celebrated our 35th Anniversary!! Praise the Lord for all the years God has given us together! We were able to go to Jasper and Banff with Penny’s brother Larry and his wife Donna. We had a great time together before they flew to the Philippines and Thailand for a few weeks. Thank you for your prayers for them as they travel! Pictures at the bottom of this letter!

Don’t forget to pray for us in July as we go to Awana camp from the 12th to the 19th! Pray for each Awana camper as they learn more about the Lord. Pray that souls will be nourished and those who don’t know Christ as Savior will come to know Him this week!

Pray also for Child Evangelism Fellowship 5-Day clubs this summer and pray for us as we have one in our back yard July 27-31. Pray that many children in our neighborhood would come and many souls will be saved.

Please keep praying for our sons and their families. Pray for David and Rachel as our new little grandson will be born in September! We can’t wait to see him, along with the other 4 grandchildren in December when we go down to Maryland for Christmas! We appreciate your prayers.

Thank you again for praying!

Dear Praying Partners,

This year in January we began sending our Mailbox Club students’ families a letter with their lessons letting them know about an email address where they can send their answers, which will help them save some postage. We still send the lessons to them as usual but then they can send their answers by email. We now have been getting lesson answers by email regularly from 33 students. I have also been sending that letter with each birthday card sent out each month, since February. We have gotten at least three large families back from those birthday card letters! Please keep praying for our students in the Mailbox Club. We praise the Lord for 435 lessons graded in the Mailbox Club in the month of April! Praise the Lord for 24 Certificates of Completion in the Mailbox Club in April!

We are excited to tell you that our Friday night Bible study group’s Easter program went well in all five places that it was performed. All of the elderly people in each home were very pleased with the outcome. The kids did a great job and our choir of 29 people did great too! We had fun being able to bless people with our program of the life of Christ leading up to the cross! Thank you for your prayers!

The Registered Charity Status paperwork has been sent in to the government. They have informed us that it could take 6 months to a year to hear anything from them. Thank you for praying. Also please keep praying for our sons and their families and for our health. We appreciate your prayers.

On May 17th Joe preaches at a friend’s church, filling the pulpit. Our 35th anniversary is June 14th, and Penny’s brother Larry and his wife Donna are coming to visit in June. We are very excited to show them our area of ministry and our home. Please pray for safety as they travel up here and from here go on to the Philippines for a few weeks. Thank you again for praying!

Dear Praying Partners,

Thank you once again for praying for our ministry here in Canada. We realize we could not do our work here on the field without faithful prayers and financial support from all of you! We are amazed at how God works through many different people and churches to carry out His work in many different countries all around the world through people just like you and me! Through you a missionary can do his/her work in any country around the globe. Thank you again.

We will send the lessons to them as usual and they can send their answers by email. At this point we have gotten lesson answers by email from 13 students. We are praising the Lord how we are able to get more lessons in this way. Please keep praying for our students in the Mailbox Club. We praise the Lord for 314 lessons graded in the Mailbox Club this past couple of months! Praise the Lord for 3 salvations in the Mailbox Club the last two months!

Please continue to pray for Joe as he works on the Registered Charity Status. It will take some time but it is coming along well so far. Thank you for praying . Also please keep praying for our sons and their families and for our health.

March and April are exciting months to look forward to the different things God will bring to our ministry here in Canada. Joe is helping with an Easter Recital that our church children are doing in 4 different homes for the elderly on March 29th, April 5th and April 12th. On April 17-18 is the annual Discerning the Times Conference in Saskatoon. Thank you for praying for these upcoming ministry opportunities!

A river boat taxi – taken at Jacksonville, FL at night on January 1!

Thank you for praying for our trip to Florida for Christmas! We had a great time and Joe’s heart behaved itself most of the time. It only went into AFib twice the three weeks we were down there and both times only lasted three hours each. We appreciate all the prayers so much. Joe preached three times at a missions conference in South Middleburg Baptist Church and he also preached at Harvest Baptist Church in Palatka while we were in Florida and two more times since we got home. He sang four solos and a duet with Darren at the Mission Conference and a solo in Palatka too! He then sang a solo once more after we got back home in Canada.

The Western Tract Mission Mailbox Club went smoothly while we were gone. We praise the Lord for the helpers working so hard! We appreciate your prayers for the Mailbox students. We are going to try something new! This year, we are sending each family a letter letting them know about an email address that they can send their answers to, which will help them save some postage. We will send the lessons to them as usual and they can send their answers by email. Some of the students don’t have email or access to a computer but most of them do.

Prayer requests:

  • The Mailbox Club Students!
  • Our health
  • Please keep praying for our sons and their families.
  • Pray for us as we pursue a registered charity status for SLM Canada, that all will go smoothly.

Praises:

  • Praise the Lord for a great Christmas break in Florida.
  • Praise the Lord for Joe’s good health on the whole trip.
  • Praise the Lord for travel safety for Darren and the grandkids and for David and Rachel surprising us by driving down on New Years Eve.
  • Praise the Lord for Daniel & Kascha and baby Lily having a good Christmas together in VA.

“For we are laborers together with God.” 1 Corinthians 3:9

Dear Praying Partners,

Thank you so much for your prayers for Joe! He is doing much better and getting stronger each week. He went to the cardiologist on the 16th of October and his Afib is still too fast so they changed one of the heart pills he is taking.

Thank you also for praying for Penny! The x-rays showed that she has 3 vertebrae in her neck that have lost cartilage and that she has scoliosis. The doctor at Spine Pathway seems to think that the scoliosis is probably causing the muscle to be stretched and then periodically will spasm. She thinks that the only thing that can be done is possibly a cortisone shot in the muscle.

Please keep us in prayer for our trip to Florida in the month of December. We will be visiting Penny’s parents and brothers while there. We have 3 meetings set up for two Sundays and a Wednesday. Please pray that the meetings will go well.

There were 713 lessons graded in the months of September and October in the Western Tract Mission Mailbox Club. There were 27 certificates earned by students finishing their courses in October. We gave out 87 books so far this year because of the contest for students ages 16 and younger. That means that at least 435 new lessons went out this year so far! Pray that we will get many of those back as new students in the club!

Prayer requests

  • The Mailbox Club Students, and more ideas to help the club to grow. Our incoming lessons have dropped very much with the rise in postage rates.
  • Our health
  • Please keep praying for our sons and their families.
  • For a safe trip to Florida in December for Christmas.
  • Pray for us as we pursue a registered charity status for SLM Canada, that all will go smoothly.

Praises

  • Praise the Lord for all of the students in the Mailbox Club!
  • Praise the Lord for visitors from Source of Light Ministries Headquarters in Madison, GA in September.
  • Praise the Lord for each of you who pray for us!
  • Praise the Lord that we were able to drive down to Wisconsin to Penny’s aunts’ funeral.

“For we are laborers together with God.” 1 Corinthians 3:9

Dear Praying Partners,

These past two months have come with several health issues! At the end of July, Penny had eight x-rays on her back to see what is causing the spasms. God has allowed us to find a Doctor that is willing to check out Penny’s back and finding the cause instead of just treating the symptoms which have been happening periodically for the last 33 years. We haven’t had a chance to get the results of the x-rays yet.

On Saturday night, August 23rd, Joe wasn’t able to fall asleep, because he felt as if his heart was racing. At 5:30 a.m. he thought he’d better go to the ER. We spent most of the day Sunday in ER, and the doctors found that his Atrial Fibrillation was in the very high range. They sent him home after getting it down to between 70-90 beats per minute. He felt bad all day Monday the 25th, and then at 11:00 p.m. he felt sharp pains in his left chest area and nausea, so we went back to ER. By 8:00 a.m. they admitted him to the hospital. After they performed an Echo Cardiogram they found a clot inside of his heart. He stayed in the hospital until Sunday, August 31, and was discharged at 1:15. Then on Friday he had numbness in his leg which woke him up around 2:00 a.m., and we went back to ER when the numbness had also begun to affect his face. He spent most of the day there undergoing tests, but not finding anything the doctors sent him home. Joe is doing better, the medications they have prescribed are controlling the A-Fib and his INR (the thinning of his blood) is up between 2 and 3 so that the clot will disintegrate. The INR needs to stay between 2-3 to be thin enough so the A-Fib can’t cause clots and so that the one he has will fizzle away instead of move somewhere more dangerous. We still don’t know what the numbness in his face is but they are sure it’s not related to his heart problems.

We are looking forward to this week when we will have two ladies from Source of Light Ministries in our home. It will be great to see them again and to show them where we live and work.
